Our GED program features one-on-one or small group tutoring that has been shown to have a positive impact on test scores. Students are matched with a trained volunteer tutor who will aid in the preparation for the official GED test. In weekly sessions, CLC provides the learning materials to help each student master the skills that would have been acquired during a four-year high school education. The emphasis of study is focused on the five major subject areas covered in the GED test: Reading Comprehension, Writing, Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics.

High school graduates, on average, earn about 42% more than those without a high school education... | “LACK OF A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA = POOR EARNING PROSPECTS” -ProLiteracy America
Students come to us from various walks of life and for various reasons. Most advanced as far as high school, some even into the 12th grade, but dropped out because of illnesses or other serious family-related issues. Others may have transferred from other school systems where the curriculum requirements for graduation don’t match those of our local schools. Others come into our program in their 20s and 30s, due to requirements for advancement in their job. And yes, a few come to us after dropping out of school for reasons they now realize were not very good!
One student, in his early twenties, came to us, after the birth of a child with a severe disability. He realized that by getting his GED he would be able to find a better paying job, with benefits to help offset the costs associated with his child’s medical care. |
