High School Equivalency
About the HiSet
of April 1, 2016, the State of Tennessee no longer offers the GED test as an
option to obtain a High School Equivalency diploma.The HiSET, High School
Equivalency Test, is offered in 21 states, including Tennessee. When you pass
the HiSET, you earn the high school completion credentials.

studies, reading and writing. There is one essay writing section, and all other
sections are multiple choice. Each section is timed.
HiSET takes about 7-1/2 hours, but you can choose to take the parts on

The OPT, of Official
Practice Test – a state requirement before you take the HiSET
state requires that you take an OPT, or Official Practice Test, before you take
the HiSET. The OPT includes all five sections and is timed. It takes 4-5 hours
to complete, and shows you how prepared you are to take the HiSET. It is an
assessment; you don’t pass or fail. You must be 17 to take the OPT through the
Collierville Literacy Council.
How can the Collierville
Literacy Council help me?
Administer the OPT: The
Collierville Literacy Council administers the OPT at our office at 167
Washington Street in Collierville, M-Th. Appointment times are at 9:30 am and
10:30 am. On Wednesdays, we also include a 1:30 appointment time. If you would
like to take the OPT, please call our office at 901-854-0288.
Literacy Council charges a $25 administrative fee for the HiSET. When you
arrive, you’ll need to bring cash or charge, and a photo ID.

to take your HiSET within a year after completing the OPT.

one or more areas where you need to practice.

The Collierville Literacy Council offers the HiSet at New Direction Church at114 Hwy 72 E., in
Collierville periodically, and it is administered by UT Martin.
